Why is Citizens for Democracy of Marion organizing the rally?

Kent Halloran, member of Citizens for Democracy of Marion, Ohio, said the group is protesting the way President Donald Trump has represented the Constitution and upheld it while in office.

Halloran pointed to a few examples including Trump’s administration labeling Tesla protestors as “domestic terrorists” after a Tesla dealership was vandalized, while pardoning participants in the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“To us, this seems like a weaponization of the first amendment,” Halloran said. “In other words, if you say things that MAGA likes and approves of you’re OK, but if you say anything against them, then you’re going to be classified as a domestic terrorist.”

In its treatment of immigrants, Halloran said, Trump’s administration also is violating the Sixth Amendment in the Constitution, which guarantees individuals the right to a speedy and public trial.

“It seems to me they’re doing everything they can to either violate certain provisions, not all, but they’re violating any provisions of the Constitution,” Halloran said.

Halloran said the group is fighting for everyone’s First Amendment rights, not just those they agree with.
