Dover’s Hog Heaven hosts fundraiser
DOVER − Hog Heaven’s annual Pig Roast Give Back will be from 4 to 10 p.m. Aug. 2, at 6557 Columbia Road. All proceeds will benefit Beneath the Shade, a faith-based nonprofit offering supportive housing to people recovering from addiction.
The Tuscarawas River Band will perform from 6 to 10 p.m., and there will be raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing. Meal tickets are $20 and include smoked pork, two sides, and one beverage. Bee Gees tribute band to perform
SUGARCREEK ‒ The U.S. Bee Gees will perform at 7 p.m. July 31, The Ohio Star Theater. This 5-piece band features Todd Pitts, Greg Pitts and Ken Custalow recreating the look and sound of the brothers Gibb. Tickets start at $39 and can be purchased at https://dhgroup.com/events/bee-gees-tribute/.
Church sets fundraising concert
BOLIVAR − Bolivar Community Church will host Jordan St. Cyr and Cade Thompson performing a concert of Christian music at 7 p.m. Aug. 1, at Tusky Valley High School. All proceeds from the event will go toward a new parking lot for the church. There also will be a concession stand and silent auction. Health fair planned for July 30
NEW PHILADELPHIA − A health fair will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 30, at Mercy Hospital Medical Outpatient Center, 1031 W. High Ave. It will include free health screenings, education, and a variety of local vendors and community groups dedicated to improving the community’s well-being.
Touch‑A‑Truck event set
SUGARCREEK ‒ The Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum will host its free Touch‑A‑Truck, Touch‑A‑Train event from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at 213 Smokey Lane Rd. SW. Children and families can explore and interact with a diverse collection of vehicles ranging from semi-trucks and farm equipment to emergency service vehicles like firetrucks and police cruisers. Stuff the Bus collection event
NEW PHILADELPHIA − The United Way of Tuscarawas County will partner with HARCATUS Head Start to collect school supplies for preschoolers ages 3 to 5. The community can join the effort from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2 at Walmart, 231 Bluebell Dr. SW, to buy supplies during Ohio’s Sales Tax Holiday. Volunteers will be at each entrance with a list of items needed, along with collection boxes. The boxes then will be delivered to the school bus parked in the lot. Items collected will be distributed to Head Start classes throughout Tuscarawas County.
Donations can also be dropped off at Andreas Furniture in Sugarcreek, Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy in Dover, First Federal Community Bank (New Philadelphia, Uhrichsville, Sugarcreek, and both Dover locations), First National Bank (Dover and Dennison locations), McInturf Realty in New Philadelphia , Parkway Auto Superstore, Parkway Honda, and Parkway Nissan in Dover and Tuscarawas County Child Support Enforcement Agency in New Philadelphia
Library events
● Fan Fest, celebration of geeky curiosities and interests such as cosplay and anime, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 2 at the main library. It will include gaming and an array of activities and competitions on all levels of the library, panel discussions, and a cosplay contest. The contest is for attendees 12 and older. Additional activities include tabletop games, video game contest and panel discussions on Cosplay 101 and trivia. The children’s department will offer a scavenger hunt, giant Jenga, and storytimes.
● Katrina Ledwell of Oakley’s Adventures 101 LLC will offer dog training discussion and demonstration at 6 p.m., July 28, at the main library. No other dogs will be permitted. To register for the program, call 330-364-4474.
● Two technology classes focusing on an introduction to Microsoft Word and the basics of Excel spreadsheets will be offered at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively Aug. 5, at the main library.
