State prosecutors have closed the case of a late-night shooting on July 21 in northwest Tallahassee, calling it “justifiable homicide.”
Here’s what happened: At approximately 11 p.m., TPD responded to a call of a man who was shot in the area of Horne Avenue and White Drive.
Upon arrival, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died two days later.
As officers investigated, they located the apartment where the incident took place as well as another person involved. Officers questioned that man and released him.
Preliminary findings, however, show the two men were in a physical altercation and tussled over a gun before it went off, hitting the injured man.
“Following a thorough review and consultation with the State Attorney’s Office, this case will be closed and classified as a justifiable homicide, unless new information is revealed,” police said.
The shooting is at least the 40th serious shooting this year in that capital city and county. Fifteen people have died and at least 25 have been injured, according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.
