An adult male was arrested after he crashed into a hotel in the East Village of Des Moines on the morning of July 16.
Des Moines police received reports of a person chasing pedestrians at approximately 6:30 a.m. July 16. Initial calls reported the individual was on foot. Later calls said he was driving a car on the sidewalk, attempting to run over pedestrians, according to a news release.
Officers first attempted a traffic stop for the vehicle on E. Grand Avenue and Robert D. Ray Drive. The driver then “apparently intentionally” rammed the police squad car, said Sgt. Paul Parizek in the news release. He drove away from officers at high speeds.
After the driver reportedly failed to yield to a red light, he crashed into the exterior of the Embassy Suites hotel on the 100 block of Locust Street.
The suspect, who was not named by police, was taken into custody at the scene of the crash and was transported to a local hospital with a leg injury.
No one else reported injuries as a result of the incident, according to the news release.
