'Good Trouble Lives On' event planned at Heekin Park

MUNCIE, IN — “Good Trouble Lives On” is a “non-partisan national day of nonviolent action” that will be observed locally from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, at the Walk of Fame in Heekin Park, according to a news release.

“Good Trouble Lives On” is a continuation of the civil rights movement U.S. House Rep. John Lewis helped lead in the 1960s and throughout his life. He died July 17, 2020. The event marks the fifth anniversary of Lewis’ death.

According to the release, the event will “call attention to limitations currently imposed on citizens’ and residents’ civil and human rights and will remind them that, in the United States, the power lies with the people through their First Amendment rights.”

“Generations of Americans have fought to maintain our democracy, and it’s necessary for us to continue that fight today, ” said Sarah Vitale, chair of Muncie Resists, which is hosting the event.
