Grant Wolfram earned his first major league win on Thursday afternoon.
The Holland native and Hamilton graduate was recalled by the Baltimore Orioles and pitched two innings in the first game of a doubleheader, a 3-1 victory over the New York Mets at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Wolfram (1-0) allowed one hit and no walks in two innings, striking out four. He threw 29 pitches and a stunning 22 were strikes, including on the first pitch to four of the seven hitters he faced.
The 6-foot-7 lefty came in to relieve starter Charlie Morton, who allowed one run in six innings.
It was Wolfram’s third major league game. He made his debut for the Orioles against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park on April 26 and pitched again on April 27 before being sent back down to Triple-A.
He was recalled before Thursday’s doubleheader.
Wolfram’s season totals now show 3 1/3 innings. He has allowed two runs and two walks, while strikeout out five.
The 6-foot-7 lefty was then drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 18th round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He worked his way up through the Texas organization before signing as a free agent with the Milwaukee Brewers this season.
Wolfram was called up for one game but did not appear in the game. He was then sent down and traded to the Orioles.
Wolfram joins fellow Holland-area players Blake Dunn, Andy VanHekken, George Zuverink and Hall of Famer Jim Kaat as major leaguers. Dunn made his debut last season.
