Large stretch of I-71 southbound reopens on Columbus' North Side after crash injures 3

Three people were injured in a crash on Interstate 71 north of downtown Columbus that shut down the southbound lanes of the freeway for two hours.

A Columbus police dispatcher said people were outside the back of a stalled vehicle when another vehicle struck them and the vehicle at 5:13 a.m. on I-71 southbound at East 17th Avenue. Two people were transported to Grant Medical Center in serious condition, and another was transported in critical condition.

I-71 southbound remained closed from East 17th Avenue to Interstate 270 until after 7 a.m. During the closure, police redirected traffic from the roadway.
