The Lakeland Fire Department is preparing to launch its annual fundraiser for some of its beloved furry friends.

The fire department will host its 7 Days of Giving from July 7 to 14 aiming to collect 7,000 pounds of pet food and $7,000 in donations to help support SPCA Florida.
“When we show up to help, we’re there for every life—human or animal,” Fire Chief Doug Riley said. “Pets are part of the families we serve, and SPCA Florida has always been there to help the animals we rescue. This campaign is a way to give back and support their lifesaving work.”
Lakeland firefighters are trained and equipped with special animal rescue tools when they head out, including pet oxygen masks, leashes and carriers so they can provide aid to animals during fire, medical and rescue emergencies.
The SPCA Florida has often stepped in to care for animals they’ve rescued, providing shelter, rehabilitation and adoption.
Individuals are encouraged to bring pet food donations to Station 1, 701 E. Main St. in Lakeland, throughout the week. Those wishing to make a financial contribution can donate by visiting the SCPA Florida’s website at www.spcaflorida.org/777.
