Michigan football recruiting stays red hot, lands 4-star edge Julian Walker

The calendar may have flipped from June to July, but that hasn’t slowed down Michigan football.

Julian Walker, a four-star class of 2026 edge from Irmo, South Carolina (Dutch Fork High School), committed to the Wolverines on Tuesday, July 1. U-M defensive line coach Lou Esposito was able to win Walker over fellow contenders South Carolina, USC and North Carolina.

Walker is rated the No. 4 player in South Carolina, a top-20 edge in the nation and the No. 197 player in the country regardless of position, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

“Walker possesses great overall size and length that correlates well to the next level,” wrote 247Sports analyst Clint Brewster. “Walker has the strength and toughness to be disruptive against the run and make plays as a true 3-down player. Depending on body type and how he develops, Walker could potentially move inside on passing downs.”

Esposito is putting together one of the best crops of defensive line recruits in U-M history, after earning pledges from four-star Carter Meadows, four-star Titan Davis, four-star Alister Vallejo, four-star McHale Blade and three-star Tariq Boney.

Michigan now has eight top-200 recruits in the country.

Walker marks the 10th commit the Wolverines have secured in the last two weeks and now 19th overall, vaulting their class from the mid-40s to the No. 9 class America.
