Second mosquito sample in Canton positive for West Nile virus

CANTON – Canton City Public Health says another mosquito sample has tested positive for West Nile virus, increasing the total to two.

The first was found in the 2200 block of Sandwith Avenue SW, and the latest was at Ransom H. Barr Elementary School, 2000 47th St. NE.

West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental United States. The virus spreads to humans through infected mosquito bites, causing symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea or rash in 20% of cases.
