A Ripon man was sentenced to 55 years to life in prison in connection with sexual crimes against children that occurred in 2019, prosecutors announced this week.

West was previously found guilty of one count of sexual intercourse with a child 10 or younger by a person 18 or older; two counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 or younger by a person 18 or older; three counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14; and one count of knowingly promoting, employing, using, persuading, inducing or coercing a minor under 18.

West also previously pleaded guilty to one count of possession or control of matter depicting a minor engaging in or simulating sexual conduct, according to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office.

“Today’s sentencing restores a sense of safety for our community and honors the immense courage of the victims who came forward,” San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said. “We stand with those harmed, fiercely committed to protecting our children and ensuring their voices lead to lasting justice.”

He was arrested at 8:35 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2019, at his home in the 500 block of Van Dyken Way.

Ripon police served a search warrant at the home and found West inside the garage. At the time, police said that based on West’s statements and evidence collected, he was arrested.

After police posted about the arrest on Facebook, several community members commented that West had coached youth baseball and softball for Ripon Parks and Recreation and the local Babe Ruth program. He also coached children under 10 in the Ripon chapter of the Northern California Wildfires in 2016 and 2017, and children under 12 in 2018, according to community members who commented on the post.
