“Extra Extra!!! Read all about it!” is what you’ll read if you check the bottom of a can of Wolf’s Ridge Brewing’s latest collaboration.
The “greatest collab in Columbus history,” is hitting shelves and the brewing company’s taps across the area.
After four weeks of fermentation, the Dispatch Pale Ale, a new American pale ale, entered its last phase of the production process when Wolf’s Ridge staff began canning the beer June 19.
On the first day of canning, brewery staff predicted 600 cases would be packaged.
Each case contains 24 cans, and in total, roughly 825 cases would be packaged by the end of the week.
The collaboration was born when Dispatch reporter Max Filby and photographer Doral Chenoweth interviewed the head brewer at Wolf’s Ridge, Harry Pendergrast, for a story on how aluminum tariffs are affecting the local business.
Just a few months later, the beer will soon be ready for readers and beer connoisseurs alike.
Cases will start being delivered to supermarkets on June 21, according to Bryan Steller, the company’s head of brewery production and operations.
He said customers should start seeing the beers on shelves throughout the week after June 21.
Canning the ‘greatest collab’
Steller gave staff from The Dispatch a tour around the facility to watch as the cans were filled with liquid, snaking around the canning machine.
“It’s going to be great for both (companies) for name recognition,” Steller said.
“It couldn’t be more recognizable. That’s just a home run for us.”
The collaboration is even bigger than the local newspaper and brewing company.
A dollar from every draft beer sold at a launch party event will go to Thurber House, Columbus’ nonprofit literary arts center.
The launch party will be held at the brewery’s Downtown location, 215 N. Fourth St., on June 26 at 4 p.m.
Atop draft brews, Dispatch Pale Ale will be available in six packs to-go that evening.
Dispatch beers sold at Wolf’s Ridge locations throughout the month of July will also help donate a dollar to Thurber House.
“We do a different beer every month that goes to a different cause,” Steller said. “This one’s a lot of fun, being a little bit more intentional with the Thurber House and The Dispatch.”
