Calling all cars, trucks and motorcycles, Cruisin’ on the Commons is June 20

Cruisin’ on the Commons will be held at the Millersport Lions Park, from 5 to 8 p.m. June 20. Registration runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Cars, trucks, and motorcycles may register for $15 each. The show will feature lots of fun, trophies, music, door prizes, 50/50, and food. Trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Pre-1944, 1945-1964, 1965-1984, 1985-2004, 2005-2024. For more information ca,ll 614-562-1919 or 740-953-1521. The event is hosted by the Millersport Sweet Corn Festival Committee and all proceeds benefit Millersport Lions supported charities.

The Millersport Lions Community Market will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. June 25 at The American Legion Building, 2557 Canal Street in Millersport. The event will be held rain or shine.

Senior citizens

The Fairfield Beach Senior Citizens met June 11 at the new Fairfield Beach Community Safe Room at Fairfield Beach. The potluck lunch featuring sloppy joes was enjoyed by 15 guests and two guests.

President Richard Neff conducted the business meeting. Reports were given on members unable to attend. Plans were made for upcoming meetings. Nominations for the officers for the upcoming year will be discussed at the July meeting. Rosie Brookover and Mary Hampson will serve on the committee for the July meeting. Ken Keener provided a “Father’s Day Trivia Quiz” for the entertainment. Everyone present received a door prize.

The next meeting will be held at the same location at noon July 9. All who are 55 years of age and older are encouraged to join for fellowship, food and fun.

Summer lunch program

The Millersport Community Food Pantry presents the Summer Lunch Program, from 5 to 6 p.m. every Monday through August 4. The Community Food Pantry is located at 2315 Weekly Avenue in Millersport. Join in the fun of free meals for all school-aged children, items available to take home, and weekly activities to enjoy with friends.

Retired teachers

Several retired employees of the Walnut Township Local School District attended the Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association meeting at Cheers Chalet on June 10. President Tim Shumaker welcomed those present and encouraged everyone to celebrate the day as National Ball Point Pen Day.

Following lunch, Jennifer Sitterley gave a very informative presentation on the subject of elder law.June has been designated as Scholarship Collection Month with a bakeless bake sale. Congratulations to this year’s Marlo Mills Scholarship recipient Emily Wolda from Amanda-Clearcreek. Her degree is in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Congratulations also go out to grant winners Gina Neff from Amanda-Clearcreek and Amanda Thompson from Lancaster High School.

Shirley Wasem reported that members will again be manning the “Old Schoolhouse” at the Fairfield County Fair Oct. 5-11. Anyone who has not helped in the past and would like more information should contact Shirley.The next meeting will be held September 9 at noon at Cheers Chalet. Entertainment will be provided by Clarence McCoy who is the music director for First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.

Board of Education

The Walnut Township Local School District Board of Education met June 9 in the Laker Learning Center. Spring Sports Award recipients were recognized with certificates.Kim Mathews, elementary principal, reported on test scores and the Bike Rodeo. A special education report was shared with the board. Superintendent Radulovich reported on facilities projects and repairs, and ELA materials.

The board voted to enter into executive session to review for negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees concerning their compensation or other terms and conditions of their employment.The board approved the superintendent’s recommendation to add a 4% increase on the base rate of pay for all classified employees effective July 1, 2025.
