CHEBOYGAN – Cheboygan’s Tessa Lake has been voted the top high school softball player in the Cheboygan area following a poll that opened Tuesday and closed at 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Lake, who earned all-Northern Shores Conference first team, all-region and all-district honors, won the poll by capturing 36.29 percent of the vote. Lake’s Cheboygan teammate, Presley Chamberlain, was second with 33 percent of the vote.
Nearly 2,200 votes were cast during the poll.
Here were the nominees:
Tessa Lake, Cheboygan – Delivered a superb offensive season and was one of the top defensive infielders in the area.
Presley Chamberlain, Cheboygan – Shined as a catcher and really got her bat rolling during the second half of the campaign.
Lexi Kovtun, Inland Lakes – Finished off a solid career as Inland Lakes’ ace and was outstanding offensively throughout the spring.
Brooklyn LaBrecque, Inland Lakes – A defensive star in center field, LaBrecque had a quality senior season offensively as well.
Kenzlie Currie, Mackinaw City – One of the best young talents in the area, Currie broke out with an impressive sophomore campaign to the lead the Comets.
Ema DeMaestri, Onaway – Arguably the most powerful offensive player in the area, DeMaestri played a major role in the Cardinals winning a first district crown since 2019.
Marley Szymoniak, Onaway – Offensively, Szymoniak was consistent throughout the spring, while also being a stout defender at second base for the district title-winning Cardinals.
