Authorities have identified an Apple Valley woman and an Adelanto man who died in a head-on collision in Victorville on Father’s Day in which DUI was suspected.
The violent wreck took place just before 5 p.m. Sunday at Green Tree Boulevard and Hesperia Road.
Maria Alvarado, 25, of Apple Valley was at the wheel of an Acura TL headed east prior to the crash, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and coroner’s records.
Ricardo Dawkins, 44, of Adelanto was driving west in a Cadillac Escalade.
“Through investigation, it was determined a black Cadillac Escalade drove west on Green Tree Boulevard, crossed into oncoming lanes of traffic and struck a grey Acura TL in the east bound lane of Green Tree Boulevard,” the sheriff’s department said in a written statement.
Alvarado died at the scene, authorities said. Dawkins was initially hospitalized in critical conditions, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
“A driving under the influence investigation was conducted on Dawkins at the initial portion of the investigation,” the statement said.
A third vehicle that became involved in the wreck sustained minor damage and the occupants were unhurt, officials added.
Green Tree Boulevard was shut down for about six hours to allow for the investigation.
