It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Boys Prep Athlete of the Week for June 1-7.
This week’s poll features three players from last week’s regional and championship tournaments — two baseball and one lacrosse.
Voting will be open until 3 p.m. Friday, June 13. We’ll announce the winner here shortly after the poll closes.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Frank Baiardia, Brother Rice, lacrosse: Brother Rice captured its 17th state lacrosse championship on Friday, June 6, by defeating Detroit Catholic Central, 9-8, in overtime. The junior midfielder for the Warriors had three goals in the title game against the Shamrocks.
Jack Danielewicz, Grosse Pointe South, baseball: Danielewicz helped South to a 3-0 victory over Detroit Western in the regional semifinals on Wednesday, June 4. The junior pitcher had eight strikeouts in seven innings, allowing three walks and two hits.
Evan Morrison, Macomb Dakota, baseball: The senior first baseman hit a home run in top of the first inning that sparked Dakota’s 5-1 regional semifinal victory over Warren De La Salle on Wednesday, June 4. The team clinched a spot into the state semifinals after defeating Lake Orion, 4-0, on Saturday. Morrison ended the week with a .333 batting average with one home run and three RBIs.
