Skip the chains — Florida is home to a handful of local burger joints worth the road trip.
USA TODAY Network’s Florida dining and entertainment team recently put together a list of the top 11 best burgers found at restaurants in the Sunshine State.
See which Treasure Coast restaurant made the list, as well as the other restaurants ranging from north to south and east to west across the state.
Bearded Brothers Taphouse & Eatery, Fort Pierce
Bearded Brothers Taphouse & Eatery opened in 2024 in the Indrio Crossings Shopping Center in Lakewood Park, north of Fort Pierce.
Brothers Gaetano and Liborio Traina were inspired to open the restaurant by their Italian heritage, their family’s culinary legacy and their passion for flavorful brews. They were brought up in the restaurant industry, learning from their father, Francesco Traina, who owned pizzerias across Palm Bay.
Its menu features four smash burgers: “All-American” with mayo, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions and pickles; “Black and Bleu” with blackened beef, bacon and blue cheese crumbles; “My Pregnant Wife’s” with American cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickles and peanut butter; and “Mushroom Swiss” with sautéed mushrooms and onions, Swiss cheese, lettuce and mayo.
Bearded Brothers won this year’s March Madness: Treasure Coast burger edition. TCPalm picked the “Sweet 16” of some of the best burgers across Martin, St. Lucie and Indian River counties from restaurants, excluding national chains, that are specified as burger joints or are known for the burgers on their menus. The contenders faced off weekly in basketball-style brackets.
Bearded Brothers Taphouse & Eatery survived all four rounds of elimination and won with 125 votes, over 69% of the votes — beating Flanigan’s with 56 votes, nearly 31% of the votes.
