WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Franciscan Health Lafayette announced Wednesday its plans to build a freestanding Emergency Department in West Lafayette on the same campus as its new Franciscan OrthoIndy Surgery Center under active construction.
The new emergency medical facility will be at the corner of U.S. 52/231 and Cumberland Avenue, on the same property where Franciscan OrthoIndy broke ground just over a year ago for a new surgery center, according to a news release.
Tony Veneziano, a spokesperson for Franciscan Health, said the emergency center will be just south of the surgery center. The emergency facility, valued at $25.7 million, is expected to break ground later this year, Veneziano said, with a goal of completed construction by the end of 2027.
A team of nearly 40 full-time employees is expected to staff the Emergency Department, according to the release, adding that the site will offer full-service, 24/7 access to high-quality emergency care in a convenient, community-based location.
Terry Wilson, president and CEO of Franciscan Health Western Indiana, said in the release that as West Lafayette continues to grow, there’s a greater need for emergency services closer to residential areas.
“This project is a great chance for us to expand our presence in the Greater Lafayette area,” Wilson said in the release. “With this new, modern emergency department, we’ll be able to improve access to emergency care in this growing market, making it a valuable extension of our healthcare ministry.“
