Peyton Manning filmed with Joe Burrow at Paycor Stadium for ESPN+ series

Peyton Manning may no longer be on the field, but the Hall of Famer knows what it takes to be a successful quarterback. So, it only makes sense for him to film with Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow for his documentary series “Peyton’s Places.”

Manning visited Paycor Stadium last week. He had just gotten through supervising the Netflix documentary “Quarterback,” which dissects the position through the lens of Burrow, Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins.

According to Bengals senior writer Geoff Hobson, if it wasn’t for Manning, Burrow wouldn’t have participated in the Netflix series. Burrow initially turned down the show, which premieres in July.

“He’s going to protect me, protect our team, protect our organization,” Burrow said last month. “I have trust in him for saying that and trust that he’s going to do that. I probably wouldn’t have done it if he wasn’t involved, but I have a lot of trust and faith in him to not do anything that would hurt me or the team.”

The two now have a mutual respect and trust for one another, which sets Burrow up to be featured in another project with Manning: “Peyton’s Places.”

The ESPN+ docu-series, hosted by Manning, revisits seminal moments in NFL history through conversations with former players, coaches and other key figures.

Manning told Hobson to get used to the Cincinnati skyline because three of the 10 episodes in this season’s “Places,” which debuts in November, will have ties to the Bengals and the “evolution of the quarterback as a play-caller, the rise of tall receives, and a look at how Bengals founder Paul Brown’s Taxi Squad morphed into today’s practice squad.”

According to Hobson, one of Burrow’s greatest moments inspired Manning to document how play-calling has changed. The moment? The 2021 AFC Divisional win in Tennessee, when Burrow was unable to hear calls through his helmet for a portion of the game, leading him to call the shots.
