LAFAYETTE — Harrison high jumper Makayla Ketterer and long jumper Jacob Schwartz were voted the Journal & Courier Athletes of the Week.
Ketterer received the most votes with 5,365 tallies while Schwartz received the most tallies by any male athlete with 840 votes.
Here’s what Ketterer and Schwartz each accomplished during the IHSAA sectional girls and boys track and field championships to receive their prestige.
Makayla Ketterer, Harrison
Ketterer set an IHSAA record in the high jump and leaped 5-7.25 on Tuesday. Ketterer’s standard broke a 24-year-old mark previously held by Noel Lynn Van Duyne (nee Ashwell) of Clinton Prairie in 2001.
Jacob Schwartz, Harrison
Schwartz passed his personal best mark, winning the long jump with a state standard mark of 22-4.75 on Thursday. Schwartz accomplished the feat while dealing while battling groin and hamstring injuries.
