Who will lead Florida State in football statistics?

With the 2025 season for Florida State football just 110 days away, which is when they welcome the Alabama Crimson Tide to Doak Campbell Stadium for the first time, I figured it would be interesting to predict who on the team would lead in certain offensive and defensive statistics.

To do this, I am using the roster as of May 11, 2025. The team may add transfers between now and August, and so if that is the case, that’s why those folks may not appear. They also have fall practice coming, and some players may rise or fall on the depth chart during that crucial time.

I look forward to being completely wrong by the end of the season.

Offensive Leaders

I believe the offense will improve with Castellanos under center. Last year was a total disaster, but given that Castellanos hasn’t thrown for more than 2,250 yards in a season for reasons both in and out of his control, I set my prediction at 3,000. The highest-yardage quarterbacks in the FBS last year were Kyle McCord (Syracuse, 4,779 yards) and Cameron Ward (Miami (FL), 4,313 yards). For reference, Jordan Travis threw for 3,200 yards in the 2022 season, where he led the Seminoles to the Cheez-It Bowl. I’m gonna play it safe here and guess he throws 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions with a completion percentage north of 62%.

Defensive Leaders

‘Defense wins championships,’ as they say, and Shyheim Brown has been here since 2021. In his final year, I think he will ball out and make a name for himself in terms of his NFL stock. Last season, he had 70 combined tackles, and so I think he will improve upon that number with a recalibrated defense. His tackle numbers have increased every year, so perhaps that trend will continue. He will also add two pick-sixes, one versus Wake Forest and one versus Kent State, is my guess.

Special Teams Leaders

Redshirt freshman Jake Weinberg (pictured) and redshirt junior Mac Chiumento both have big shoes to fill in the wake of both Ryan Fitzgerald and Alex Mastromanno leaving Florida State, the latter two were both the bright spots in an otherwise horrendous offensive season for the Seminoles in 2024. As Fitzgerald had been with the team since 2019, I think that it will be a bit of a learning curve for Weinberg at first. This is not to say he cannot kick, as he ranked as the second-best kicker nationally by Kohl’s Kicking and also scored 131 points for American Heritage-Delray High School. I don’t expect perfection from a redshirt freshman, but who knows? Maybe he will prove me wrong (he will, let’s be fair.)
