May 2: Vruggink, Phimmasane, Snyder, Tran named Students of the Week

HOLLAND — After a few weeks away starting with spring break, we’re back with another collection of excellent local students.

Each week, high school principals and staffers around Holland share their nominees for Students of the Week. We share those honorees online Fridays and in print Sundays.

This week’s students were nominated for being a friend to everyone, helping their peers, excelling in the classroom and outstanding musical performance.

Aryn Vruggink, Holland Christian High School

Aryn is incredible: Dedicated, hard-working, earnest, gentle, kind, loyal, faithful, diligent, and a friend to all. Aryn is a good student who is also a great communicator. She is the type of person you could spend lots of time with and the time would continue to get richer and richer.

Erik Phimmasane, West Ottawa High School

Erik is a kind, hardworking, and positive student. He’s always paying attention and doing his best, and he asks great questions. He’s willing to assist and work with any student and is very helpful to peers who have questions.

Adelle Snyder, Holland High School

We’re proud to recognize Holland High School senior Adelle Snyder as our Student of the Week. Adelle is a standout leader, both in and out of the classroom. She is graduating with a GPA over 4.0 and has excelled in Advanced Placement coursework. Adelle is also an accomplished athlete, participating in cross country and basketball, and a talented performer in Vocal Dimensions and the HHS Theater program. Beyond her academics and extracurriculars, Adelle is known for her cheerful spirit and warm personality. She serves as a youth group leader in her church and brings positive energy wherever she goes. Adelle has been awarded a scholarship to attend Central Michigan University this fall, where she plans to continue her academic journey. We’re excited to see all she will accomplish!

Thomas Tran, West Ottawa High School

Thomas has excelled as a jazz soloist. Just this year he has won the following awards: Best Soloist in Class AA at the CMU Jazz Weekend, Best Soloist at the WMU Invitational Jazz Festival for the second year in a row, and Best Soloist at the Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra Soloist Competition for the second year in a row. Thomas was also selected as the top High School Jazz Tenor Saxophonist in the state through his audition for the MSBOA All-State Jazz Band.
