Wednesday is bringing some surprise sun in the middle of an otherwise rainy week. However, the National Weather Service says the sun will be shining for Mother’s Day brunch Sunday.
While Wednesday is mostly sunny with a high near 73 degrees, the NWS says a 20% chance of showers is possible after 2 p.m. Overnight, patchy fog could appear and temperatures could drop to around 54 degrees.
Rain to give way to sunny skies for Mother’s Day in Lower Hudson Valley
A mostly rainy, cloudy week continues Thursday with partly sunny skies and showers likely throughout the day. Thunderstorms are also possible after 5 p.m. Temperatures are expected to remain at a high of 73 degrees.
A forecast map issued Wednesday by the NWS shows areas of the Lower Hudson Valley are at risk for excessive rainfall, with most of the region at limited risk. Limited risk points to potential for isolated flash floods, with most flooding localized to areas that “can experience rapid runoff with heavy rainfall,” the NWS website says.
Showers and possible thunderstorms could continue overnight into Friday as temperatures drop to around 52 degrees.
Rain is expected to persist Friday, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. High temperatures could reach to around 60 degrees. A little over an inch of rain is expected to accumulate in the region between Thursday and Friday.
By the evening, the rain is expected to slow, making way for a sunny Mother’s Day weekend. Saturday looks mostly sunny with a high of 69 degrees, while Sunday is sunnier and warmer with a high of 74 degrees.
