The rookie raced to the corner in an effort to catch Matt Olson’s slicing fly ball. Callihan stretched out make the catch, temporarily had the ball in his glove, but slammed into the sidewall and the ball bounced loose and resulted in an inside-the-park home run. Olson’s hit also scored Austin Riley, who had hit an RBI single, for a 4-0 Atlanta lead through three innings.

Callihan lay on the field, clutching his left forearm, until medical personnel came to attend to him and walk him off the field. After Callihan was evaluated, the Reds announced his diagnosis.

The 24-year-old is batting .167 (1-for-6) with one RBI in parts of four games. He grounded out to first base in the top of the third inning in his only at-bat.

The Reds selected Callihan in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
