Prowlers’ Johnson Gets Second Game Winner in as Many Games

By David Dell

PORT HURON- Transportation issues raised their ugly heads to start the weekend between the Prowlers and the Sea Wolves out of Biloxi, Mississippi, who arrived in a pair of rental cars and an RV. It didn’t stop them from striking first with a goal at 00:46 from Dalton Anderson. In the postgame interview with goalie Valtteri Nousiainen, he said “You can only affect what is still in front of you.” He then went on to stop the rest of the Sea Wolves’ 26 attempts to score. Shots on goal would end with nine per team.

In the second stanza, Tucker Scantlebury (9th of the season) drew a cross-ice pass from Brett Lockhart just inside the Mississippi zone, skated in to the left faceoff circle beating Samuel Best who appeared to not even see the shot. Scantlebury tied the game on the powerplay at one all, at 16:00. The Sea Wolves couldn’t muster any more offensive, ending the period with just five shots on goal. Port Huron dominated with 14.

The third period was pretty evenly matched with Port Huron outshooting Mississippi 15 to 12 but giving the visitors an extra powerplay, four to three. Neither team could put the game away after the last 20 minutes, so five minutes of overtime was put on the scoreboard clock.

The Sea Wolves got the first opportunity to score at 00:21 but Nousiainen turned it aside easily. 24 seconds later the Prowlers moved the puck into the Mississippi zone and moving the puck with aplomb. Player Coach Matt Graham dug the puck out from behind the net, hit Austin Fetterly near the right side faceoff circle, who went top of the slot to Reggie Millette. Millette directed the puck to Alex Johnson on the left side and he picked the far upper corner over Best’s trapper to win the game. Johnson who scored the winning goal in last week’s shoot out against the Motor City Rockers of Fraser, Michigan was the hero once again.

Port Huron plays host to the Sea Wolves again Saturday 21 December in the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Puck drop is 6:05 at McMorran Arena.

The Prowlers play in the Empire Division of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, now in its’ 15th year.
