With the Fourth of July barely over, it hardly seems time to talk about school starting. But with registration dates coming up and retailers rolling out back-to-school sales, the first day of school is coming up faster than you might think.
Public schools in the Fox Cities start Sept. 2. Wisconsin law says that public schools must start after Labor Day unless they receive a one-year exemption for “extraordinary reasons” like major construction. However, the law doesn’t apply to private schools, including those in Wisconsin’s choice programs.

Here’s a list of when area school districts and major private schools have their first day for the 2025-26 school year.
