MANITOWOC – An 80-year-old Manitowoc woman was hospitalized Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in a marked crosswalk, police said.
Manitowoc police and firefighters responded about 5 p.m. Aug. 22 to Waldo Boulevard at North 14th Street for a report of a crash with injury.
What happened?
Officers found the pedestrian alert and conscious in the roadway when they arrived, according to police.
Investigators determined the woman was crossing Waldo Boulevard in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old Manitowoc woman.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, police said.
Pedestrian taken to hospital
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, police said.
Reminder for drivers
Manitowoc police reminded drivers that Wisconsin law requires motorists to yield the right of way and stop or slow down to allow pedestrians to cross safely in marked or unmarked crosswalks at intersections.
