An Oshkosh man and an Omro man died in a plane crash near the Monroe Municipal Airport in the town of Sylvester on Nov. 24.
According to the Green County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a report about the crash at 5:14 p.m. The crash occurred in a gravel quarry near the West 4600 block of State Highway 59, adjacent to the airport.
The sheriff’s office said the fixed wing airplane was inbound to land at the airport but crashed in the gravel quarry on the north side of the highway.
Two people inside the aircraft died. They’ve only been identified as a 43-year-old Oshkosh man and a 41-year-old Omro man.
Upon arrival, first responders found construction equipment in the quarry on fire and “a large debris field” from the aircraft, the sheriff’s office said.
The Monroe Rural Fire Department and the Juda Fire Department extinguished the fire.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
