On-and-off rain is possible through Friday in Milwaukee area as weather turns warm, muggy

Southeast Wisconsin residents should get their umbrellas ready.

There’s a chance of rain and thunderstorms most of the rest of the work week, according to the National Weather Service. The highest chances for rain are on June 17 and 18. But much about the forecast remains uncertain.

“It’s not going to be an all-day washout through this whole week. We’re going to see periods where it’s going to be dry,” said meteorologist JJ Wood of the National Weather Service in Sullivan.

Forecasters expect it to be warm and humid the rest of the week, with highs in the 70s and 80s.

There’s a roughly 30% chance thunderstorms could develop around midnight and into the early morning of June 17.

But the better chances for storms are the evening of June 17 into June 18 — as much as a 90% chance. There’s some uncertainty over when and where the most rain will fall, but precipitation of 1 to 2 inches per hour is possible at times, Wood said.

Widespread flooding is not expected in southeast Wisconsin because the area has been fairly dry and the ground could absorb much of the rain in a downpour, Wood said.

There are periodic chances for rain June 19 and 20, Wood said. Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s and low 80s. Temperatures by the weekend are likely to reach the upper 80s and into the 90s.
