Molson Coors, which owns Milwaukee’s Miller Brewing Co., named Rahul Goyal as its new president and CEO.
The Chicago-based company announced on Sept. 22 its board of directors unanimously appointed Goyal who had served as the company’s chief strategy officer. Goyal will succeed Gavin Hattersley as president and CEO and take over Oct. 1.
Goyal has worked with the company since 2001 and held multiple international executive roles, including chief financial officer for Molson Coors in India and chief information officer for Molson Coors in the United Kingdom.
Hattersley will move to an advisory role through the end of 2025, according to the company.
“Rahul has strong institutional knowledge given his time with the company and more importantly, he is eager to bring new thinking with a focus on future growth,” Molson Coors Board Chair David Coors said in a statement Sept. 22.
The announcement comes after Molson Coors reported a 1.6% decrease in net sales for the second quarter of 2025, during what Chief Finanical Officer Tracey Joubert called “a challenging macroeconomic environment” for the U.S. beer industry.
U.S. beer sales by volume dropped 1.2% in 2024, according to sales data from the Brewers Association. Hattersley also said in August that tariffs have had a greater-than-expected impact on aluminum pricing.
The board emphasized Goyal’s role in “expanding the company’s portfolio” by securing partnerships with Coca-Cola Cola and acquiring non-beer brands like ZOA energy drinks and Naked Life non-alcoholic cocktails.
“I’m ready to take on both the opportunities and the challenges ahead of us knowing that we have the brands, the people and the passion to deliver on our ambitions,” Goyal said. “I recognize that we have a lot of work to do, and in the coming months I will share more on my vision for how we will drive growth and carry the legacy of this great company forward to reach new heights.”
In addition to Miller, Molson Coors also operates the Colorado-based Coors Brewing Co. and Blue Moon Brewing Co.
