HULL − A 30-year-old Hull man arrested following an Aug. 6 hit-and-run that critically injured another man died two days after the crash.
The man’s obituary says he “lost his lifelong battle with mental illness” on Aug. 8.
The hit-and-run crash was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 5500 block of Jordan Road in the Portage County town of Hull. A vehicle hit a pedestrian and then left the scene, according to a Portage County Sheriff’s Office news release. The victim was taken by Portage County Ambulance to a local hospital with severe injuries.
Portage County deputies were able to identify the driver that left the scene and he was arrested. The 30-year-old Hull man was charged Aug. 7 in Portage County Circuit Court with injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and hit-and-run causing great bodily harm.
The man was scheduled to make his initial appearance Aug.11, but the case was closed instead by a motion from the Portage County District Attorney’s Office.
According to online court records, a $75,000 cash bail was posted by the man Aug. 7.
The Stevens Point Journal has chosen not to name the man.
