Lake Michigan’s vast blue waters stretch for thousands of miles, and with dozens of different species of fish hiding below the waves, it’s a hotspot for many Midwestern anglers.
Now, Lake Michigan has been named the best fishing lake in the United States for 2026 by FishingBooker, a website that helps people book fishing trips.
The ranking is based on completed trips booked through FishingBooker between July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026, which means the list “reflects the best fishing lakes in the U.S. based on where anglers actually fished – not simply where they might be expected to,” according to the website.
The website said Lake Michigan is know for its king salmon, which “draw crowds as they stage for their spawning run” every summer and fall. It features a variety of other fish too: steelhead, lake trout, coho salmon, smallmouth bass and yellow perch.
“It takes the top spot on our list by a wide margin – well clear of every other lake,” FishingBooker said in the rankings. “Its shoreline stretches across four states, so anglers have no shortage of ports and access points to launch from.”
The list also included Lake Superior, which ranked seventh.
