As part of its free Rainbow Summer festival, the Marcus Performing Arts Center will festoon its grounds with enormous inflated, illuminated floral art for a week in July.
Australian artist Amanda Parer’s “Lost” will temporarily plant three huge blooms outside MPAC. They will reach as high as 16 feet tall and cover a footprint of more than 2,100 square feet, according to a news release from MPAC.
Parer’s public art installation will be on those grounds the week of July 14-20, coinciding with a week of music programming that includes Brass Queens (July 15), Digable Planets (July 16), Chicago Latin Groove (July 17) and Fool House: The Ultimate 90s Party (July 18).
The “Lost” flowers and leaves are made from printed nylon, illuminated by internal LED lights and inflated using air blowers, according to the MPAC news release. Bringing “Lost” here is a joint effort by MPAC and Milwaukee Downtown BID #21.
As part of the festivities, MPAC also plans, weather permitting, to place a rainbow-colored piano on the grounds for community members to play.

It will be a good summer for giant inflatables: the ArtBlaze beach party series will bring temporary inflatable HydroBloom sculptures to McKinley Beach on July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21.
