It reached 72 degrees in Milwaukee on March 9, which is a record high. The previous record for March 9 was 67 degrees in 2016.
But it will not be an early spring, as cold temperatures, rain, hail and some snow is in the forecast the rest of the week.
The National Weather Service Milwaukee office in Sullivan is tracking three different systems set to move into Wisconsin through the weekend. The first will arrive overnight into Tuesday, March 10.
“We have a front stalling to the south, so we will have easterly winds off Lake Michigan keeping things cooler,” said Kevin Wagner, meteorologist with the weather service. “That front is gonna bring some moisture. We are expecting to see some rain through the afternoon.”
The high temperature on Tuesday is expected to 44, then dip down to a high of 38 on Wednesday.
There is a chance for hail and some rumbles of thunder into the evening on Tuesday, Wagner said. In the evening, the rain will transition to snow for central Wisconsin, but Milwaukee might stay warm enough that it could just be a wintry mix into Wednesday, March 11.
Another system is tracking in for Thursday night into Friday, but Wagner anticipates that system staying north of Milwaukee, with the Green Bay area being most affected.
“Then we kind of get a reprieve and then it looks like we got another system making its way in for the weekend,” Wagner said. “It’s a great time in the Midwest, right?”
