Appleton has a 'No Kings' protest set for Oct. 18. Here's what to know

After not hosting a rally on June 14, Appleton will hold a No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance Protest on Oct. 18, which will see protesters voice their disapproval with several of President Donald Trump’s policies.

The protest will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with protesters meeting at the Houdini Plaza in Appleton, according to the No Kings website. The Democratic Party of Outagamie County asks protesters to bring a non-perishable food item for the St. Joseph’s Food Drive.

“Show that power belongs to people, not crowns. Stand up with Outagamie friends and neighbors, for equality, justice, and freedom from tyranny,” the Democratic Party of Outagamie County said in a Facebook post.

When were the first No Kings Day rallies in the U.S.?

The second series of nationwide protests comes four months after organizers across the country took part in peaceful rallies on Flag Day in opposition to the Trump administration’s multimillion dollar military parade celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary.

The events also coincided with the President’s 79th birthday.

Why didn’t Appleton participate in the last No Kings protest?

According to the Democratic Party of Outagamie County, the decision was made to avoid conflicting with the annual Flag Day parade, which attracts over 50,000 spectators, according to the City of Appleton.

Where else in northeastern Wisconsin will rallies be held?

A No Kings protest is scheduled from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in Green Bay. The meetup spot is at Joannes Park, 215 S. Baird St. A protest will also be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at 107 Main St. in Waupaca.

Multiple protests will also be held in Oshkosh.

Earlier this year, the “Hands Off!” protest on April 5 in downtown Appleton drew more than 2,000 people downtown.
