Two days after the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce announced President and CEO Kay McDowell will step down by the end of the year, the search is starting for the organization’s next leader.
The Chamber Board of Directors has appointed a search committee, and aims to name a new person in November. Applications are due by Sept. 15, 2025.
“Our next CEO will inherit an organization with incredible momentum,” said Robert Wood, chair of the Lubbock Chamber Board. “From the opening of the Chamber Co Lab, streamlined processes and modernized events, the Chamber is well-positioned for continued impact.”
What does the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce President and CEO job entail?
According to the job description document, the job responsibilities will include:
“The ideal candidate brings proven executive leadership, business and nonprofit expertise, and the ability to build powerful relationships that fuel economic growth and community vitality,” the position overview stated. “This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of the region while positioning the Chamber as the undisputed ‘front porch of the business community.'”

The position’s benefits include health, vision and dental insurance, a retirement plan, development opportunities and Flexible Fridays, according to the overview. Salary was not mentioned in the overview.

McDowell steps down after four years
McDowell announced her planned departure from the chamber after nearly four years with the organization, according to a news release. She led the organization’s rebrand, helped ease the membership and event processes and saw the opening of The Chamber Co Lab. The lab is a 9,000-foot space for members to collaborate, innovate and make connections at 1500 Broadway, Suite 101.
“Kay’s leadership has made a lasting impact on the Lubbock Chamber and the greater Lubbock business community,” Wood said. “Her vision, energy, and ability to execute bold ideas have elevated the Chamber in extraordinary ways.”
McDowell and her husband Dr. Scott McDowell, president of Lubbock Christian University, will remain in Lubbock.
