In just a few weeks, Jermaine Bishop will make his highly anticipated debut for the Texas Longhorns. The talented wide receiver was ranked as the No. 2 athlete in his class and No. 16 overall prospect for the cycle. While he has yet to take a collegiate snap, Bishop is already catching the eye of his new head coach, Steve Sarkisian.
When asked about Bishop on Saturday, Sarkisian said, ” The moment is never too big for him. He’s very poised. He’s very composed. He’s very confident.”
The praise is notable considering how deep the Longhorns’ receiving core is. When the season begins, Bishop will be battling with veterans such as Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, Emmet Mosley V, Kaliq Lockett, and Ryan Niblett for snaps. Each player on that list shined at times for Texas last season and will be looking to take their game to the next level as the Longhorns chase a national title.
If Bishop can meet expectations, Sarkisian will have an elite player at a crucial position for the foreseeable future. He broke Houston Metro’s all-time receiving mark by finishing his high school career with 5,000 scrimmage yards and 60-plus TDs. Now he will get to play alongside Arch Manning, who has the potential to be one of the nation’s best quarterbacks.
While the expectations for Bishop are high, he has made the most of his snaps over the last few weeks. That has put him in a good position to contribute once the season gets underway. The Longhorns are set to begin their 2026 campaign on September fifth against Texas State.
On a team full of talent, Bishop has the chance to be the next elite wide receiver to come out of the Forty Acres, and Sarkisian is excited about what he has seen so far.
