Texas Tech’s NFL pipeline keeps making noise as camps push into their second and third weeks ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Where do notable former Red Raiders stand as training camp rolls on? Here’s the latest on the former Red Raiders turning heads across the league.
Patrick Mahomes, Quarterback — Kansas City Chiefs
The biggest storyline of camp for any Red Raider belongs to Mahomes. Roughly eight months removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL, Mahomes has been a full participant with no limitations.
According to head coach Andy Reid, he said his star quarterback “sure looks sharp out there.” Mahomes has completed full 11-on-11 periods and says he’s targeting Kansas City’s Week 1 matchup against Denver on Sept. 14 as his return date.
David Bailey, Edge Rusher — New York Jets
Bailey has been the story of Jets camp, and it’s not close. The No. 2 overall pick has drawn frequent praise from inside the building.
Head coach Aaron Glenn has raved about his pass rush, and Bailey notched a sack plus multiple pressures during the Jets’ intrasquad scrimmage. There was a scare this past weekend when Bailey walked off gingerly with an ankle injury during a scrimmage.
However, Glenn said afterward the rookie should be fine and is considered day-to-day.
Jacob Rodriguez, Linebacker — Miami Dolphins
The reigning Butkus and Bednarik Award winner has kept his ball-hawking instincts sharp in South Beach. His ability to force turnovers was on display quickly. In just his second NFL practice, Rodriguez was able to force a fumble on running back De’Von Achane.
Jordyn Brooks, Linebacker — Miami Dolphins
Fresh off a First-Team All-Pro season and an NFL-best 183 tackles, Brooks has taken Rodriguez under his wing. Brooks is mentoring the rookie in a linebacker room he now leads entering his second year in Miami. He signed an extension this offseason to keep him in Miami through 2029. He is looking to build off his best season in his six-year career.
Tyree Wilson, Defensive End — New Orleans Saints
Wilson is adjusting to a new city after signing with New Orleans this offseason. Wilson is still working to carve out snaps in a deep rotation behind Cameron Jordan.
Others to watch
Romello Height (San Francisco 49ers) has bounced back from a cramping scare, Lee Hunter (Carolina Panthers) continues logging first-team reps at defensive tackle, and Tahj Brooks (Cincinnati Bengals) is battling for the RB2 job.
With preseason games approaching, there is still plenty of time for more former Red Raiders to make their mark and land on the final 53-man roster.
