Texas Tech University officials have hired interim police chief Amy Ivey to the position permanently, according to a university news release.
Ivey, who has worked at the Texas Tech University Police Department since 2012, was initially selected to serve as the interim chief after then-chief Kyle Bonath’s retirement in December.
A third-generation police officer, Ivey earned her bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M in 2011 before entering the South Plains Police Academy.
She was promoted to the rank of captain in 2021 and served as the department’s assistant police chief in September.
“Chief Ivey has demonstrated leadership throughout her career at Texas Tech. She has earned the trust and respect of our campus community and is deeply committed to its safety and well-being,” said Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec. “She will further the mutually beneficial relationship between our police department and those that it serves.”
