Texas A&M landed its 15th commitment from the transfer portal on Sunday, and it’s a big one. This weekend, head coach Mike Elko hosted several transfer players, including wide receiver Isaiah Horton and defensive linemen Donta Simpson Jr. and Angelo McCullom. Already receiving a prediction to land Horton, the Aggies have gained a commitment from McCullom, who spent his last two seasons with Illinois.
Needing to fill out the 2026 defensive line room, landing either defensive linemen was critical, especially knowing that North Carolina transfer DL CJ Mims is currently visiting College Station, holding deep, tied with several members of the staff. Needing to land versatile defensive linemen who specialize in stopping the run, Illinois, under head coach Bret Bielema, has been a DL factory during his tenure.

Last season, McCullom recorded 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two pass deflections, and seven pressures, while earning a solid 68.6 run defense grade, per Pro Football Focus. After losing Albert Regis and Tyler Onyedim to the 2026 NFL Draft, depth and starting-level talent were the focus as soon as the transfer portal opened, and McCullom is likely the first defensive line domino to drop.
Standing at 6’2″ and 300 pounds, McCullom has the potential to make a serious impact in the 2026 rotation and will now work with Texas A&M S&C coach Tommy Moffitt this summer to add more mass to his frame. Appearing in 13 games last season, McCullom has two years of eligibility remaining.
