El Paso Live is launching a tropical event in the desert, Sun City Tiki, Saturday, Aug. 8, in the heart of Downtown El Paso.
The event will feature island-style performances, tiki-inspired cocktails and spirits sampling, live music, and immersive cultural experiences.
“This is more than just an event – it’s an experience,” said Brooke Underwood, Interim President and CEOof Destination El Paso in an email. “Sun City Tiki introduces a completely new atmosphere to El Paso, blendingentertainment, culture, and community into a memorable night that transports guests straight to theislands.”
Also, this weekend there’s more going on in Downtown El Paso. La Nube is celebrating two years of science fun for families. And families can also enjoy the return of Saddle Days to San Jacinto Plaza on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Posse will bring several horses to the plaza, allowing visitors to meet the animals up close and take photos.

Calle 24 to perform in El Paso
Mexican music singer Calle 24 is bringing his first solo US tour to El Paso. The Street Mob Records star will perform his Eterno Tour show at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at the Plaza Theatre. A few tickets ranging from $45 to $176 plus fees are available at Ticketmaster.com.
Sun City Tiki
Sun City Tiki will transform the Convention Center Plaza into a lively tropical oasis from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The event will include traditional Luau-style performances during the Grand Island Showcase as well as thrilling fire dancers, hula lessons and live music. It is a 21-and-over event. General admission tickets are $25; VIT tickets are $75, available at www.suncitytiki.com.
La Nube celebrates 2 years
La Nube STEAM Discovery Center will celebrate two years of fun with a family celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.
The event is free for children, but space is limited. People can reserve up to four free child tickets with the purchase of one $20 adult ticket. Walk-in admission will not be available.
San Lorenzo Fiesta
The Fiesta de San Lorenzo might be the biggest of all Catholic church fiestas in El Paso County, held during the weekend that celebrates the Feast Day of San Lorenzo in Clint. This year, the fiesta will be Friday through Monday, Aug. 7-10, on the church grounds, 611 Avenida De San Lorenzo in Clint.
Hours will be noon to midnight Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. The event is famed for its one-of-a-kind procession, done each year, from San Elizario Presidio Chapel to San Lorenzo Church during the patron saint’s feast at 3 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.
Saddle Days return to San Jacinto Plaza
The City of El Paso, in collaboration with the Western Cultural Heritage Foundation, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Posse and Destination El Paso, invites the community to enjoy a series of Saddle Days at San Jacinto Plaza. The family-friendly events will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Saturdays: Aug. 8, Sept. 12 and Nov. 7.

Sponsored by the Western Cultural Heritage Foundation, Saddle Days celebrate El Paso’s western culture and offer residents and visitors a unique experience in the heart of Downtown.

Odd Mob at The Elmont
The Elmont Swim Club is turning up the energy Sunday, Aug. 9 with internationally recognized DJ and producer Odd Mob. Doors open at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to secure tickets and arrive early to avoid lines.
