San Marcos shooting: Man, 19, arrested after 2 killed, police say

Police arrested a teenager accused of fatally shooting two people Saturday in downtown San Marcos.

The San Marcos Police Department said in a social media post Saturday evening Jermiah Jayden Tobias, 19, was in custody in connection with a shooting early that morning that left Anthony Barrera, 24, and Alek Pacheco, 20, dead.

The shooting followed a fight sparked by a stolen necklace, according to authorities. Tobias allegedly fired multiple shots near the intersection of San Antonio Street and Guadalupe Street, police said, hitting Barrera and Pacheco.

SMPD says Barrera died at the scene and Pacheco later died at a hospital. A third victim was treated and released.

Tobias was taken into custody just after 8 p.m. Saturday, according to police, and faces two charges of capital murder and one charge of aggravated assault.

Authorities are asking those with information about the shooting to call SMPD at 512-753-2108.
