After dismantling LSU to the tune of 49–25 in Tiger Stadium on Saturday, there are not many games left this season where Texas A&M will not be favored. Several publications produce metrics and rankings that yield a wide range of information. Still, if you go by the eyeball test, the Aggies are going to be a tough out for anyone in the nation.
The Aggies have this week off, but when they return, it’s crunch time. This bye week couldn’t have come at a better moment for A&M. With the first two of three road games in the rearview mirror, they get a chance to heal up before they begin prepping for Missouri.
To secure an SEC title shot and a College Football Playoff berth, the Aggies must win two of their final three SEC games. They are in a very similar position to last season, where they truly controlled their own destiny. However, unlike last year, they are playing much better football at this point in the season and seem to be improving.
Going undefeated is not out of the realm of possibility, but it is still unlikely. There are such things as good losses in the eyes of the people making the final decision on the postseason. So, if the Aggies drop a game, all they can hope for is that the team ends up with a solid record, so the only blemish on a stellar résumé is a reasonable one.
With four regular-season games remaining, here’s a ranking of Texas A&M’s opponents from easiest to most challenging, based on performance and momentum:
4. Texas A&M vs. Samford – Week 11
2025 record: 1-7
Analysis: Is there anything really to say here, outside of the fact that Texas A&M head basketball coach Bucky McMillan might have conflicting feelings that weekend?
3. Texas A&M vs. South Carolina – Week 10
2025 record: 3-5
Analysis: South Carolina had a lot of potential early on, but the Gamecocks no longer resemble the threat they once appeared to be. They haven’t been able to put points on the board, and the defense has been just okay. They put up a good fight against a strong Alabama team, but a fumble cost them the game and killed the momentum they had built. Sellers can still make plays with his legs, but after facing Jackson Arnold and Taylen Green, I believe the Aggies will be ready for him.
2. Texas A&M at Missouri – Week 9
2025 record: 6-2
Analysis: With the injury to starting quarterback Beau Pribula, the Aggies will now face true freshman QB Matt Zollers. That creates some uncertainty for the Missouri offense, and while he looked decent in his game against Vanderbilt, the Aggie defense will present problems he hasn’t faced yet.
1. Texas A&M at Texas – Week 12
2025 record: 6-2
Analysis: Because of the injury to Missouri’s quarterback, a solid defense, an elite return game, and the Longhorns finding ways to win, they retake the top spot as the most challenging game remaining this season. Granted, it seemed like the last two wins were more about horrible coaching decisions by the opposing teams. Still, they found a way to win instead of lose—and that counts for something, regardless of the competition.
