North Carolina transfer DL is currently visiting Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s 2026 defensive line room is still at least two or three transfer portal players away from entering the spring season as a complete unit, while needing an elite playmaker with the versatility to stop the run and create pressure in the pocket. Well, that player could be A&M’s next transfer commitment, as former ECU and North Carolina defensive lineman CJ Mims has reportedly made his way to College Station for a visit.

After officially entering the transfer portal this weekend, it was clear that Mims’s connection to the Aggie coaching staff, including Texas A&M GM Derek Miller and director of player personnel Allen Gaudet IV, who helped land Mims at ECU in 2021 were likely the driving force behind getting him to College Station for a visit this weekend.

After losing defensive tackle Albert Regis and Tyler Onyedim to the 2026 NFL Draft, Elko has yet to land an established defensive lineman, as Colorado transfer Brandon Davis-Swain is more of an edge player and lacks the experience to be fully trusted as a starter next season. Mims, who is one of the most disruptive interior pass rushers, recorded 42 tackles and two sacks, paired with 14 pressures.

Per Pro Football Focus, Mims finished with an impressive defensive grade (69.7) and nearly identical run defense (66.9) and pass rush (66.2) grades after his final season with the Tarheels. Getting him on campus is the first step, and securing his commitment would go a long way towards improving the 2026 defensive line and run defense.
