At a special called meeting Thursday, July 10, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Erin Mitchell as the new principal of Evans Middle School.
Mitchell has served as assistant principal at Evans since 2020 and begins the new role ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 school year, according to a news release from Lubbock ISD.
A veteran educator with deep ties to the Evans community, Mitchell brings over a decade of experience in Lubbock ISD, including roles as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and campus administrator. She is known for her collaborative leadership, strong instructional coaching, and dedication to building positive school culture.
“Erin Mitchell has already had a tremendous impact on Evans, and we’re excited to see her leadership continue to grow in this new role,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathy Rollo. “She understands the needs of the campus and is committed to helping every student thrive.”
Mitchell holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Texas Tech University and two master’s degrees—in curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas at Arlington, and in educational leadership from Texas Tech. She has completed the Holdsworth Campus Leadership Program, participated in the Lubbock ISD Principal Pathway, and was named the 2022 Lubbock Classroom Teachers Association Administrator of the Year.
“I’m honored to continue serving the students, staff, and families of Evans Middle School,” Mitchell said. “This campus is home to incredible educators and students, and I’m excited to build on the great work already happening here.”
Mitchell succeeds Justin Newman, who was recently named principal of Monterey High School.
