The charge was a first degree felony, so Burdick could face five to 99 years or life in prison. The same jury will recommend a sentence following the punishment phase of the trial.

Burdick, 45, was indicted in November 2023 for the murder of Randall, 41, who was shot to death on June 9, 2023, court records show.

An affidavit filed in the case indicated Michael Randall and his brother, Russell Randall, were sitting in a parked pickup at a business in the 1900 block of Sheppard Road in Burkburnett on the day of the killing.

Burdick was on the scene and admitted to law enforcement officers he shot Michael Randall through the window as he sat in the passenger seat of the vehicle, according to allegations in the affidavit.

Burdick was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

His bail was set at $1 million, and he was released from jail the following day, according to Wichita County online records.
