The Houston Texans hope Sunday ends a three-game losing streak and adds another victory at EverBank Stadium.
Headlined by C.J. Stroud, Will Anderson Jr., Derek Stingley Jr. and Nico Collins, the Texans looked poised to make a run to the AFC title game for the first time in franchise history. Everything, however, has to start off with a promising result in Week 3, which is why a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars is essential.
As for the inactive list, the Texans are once again ruling Dameon Pierce as a healthy scratch. This marks the second time that Pierce hasn’t been involved in the rushing attack despite being fully healthy at practice. Offensively, Braxton Berrios won’t play despite returning to practice last week from a hamstring injury. Houston is expected to have Christian Kirk back for the first time since the preseason, but will also turn to rookies Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins to pick up the slack in the passing game, which could be hit or miss depending on how quickly they adapt to Nick Caley’s offense.
Backup quarterback Graham Mertz will once again be a healthy scratch, but he’ll also be joined by running back British Brooks, who now could be a cut option after Houston elected to sign Jakob Johnson to the active roster as a fullback. Defensive end Darrell Taylor, who dealing with a hip injury throughout practice this past week, also will be on the med and miss Sunday’s game.
