The Texas Tech Red Raiders had an excellent 2025 season, winning the Big 12 title and making their first College Football Playoff appearance. They have a good chance of repeating that success in 2026, and they have used their on-field success to take their recruiting to new heights.
Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster committed to Texas Tech back in October, becoming the highest-ranked commit in program history. The Cedar Hill, Texas product is ranked as the No. 1 player in the 2027 recruiting cycle and on Monday received more national recognition.
MaxPreps dropped its ranking of the 10 best high school players in the country entering the 2026 season, and Brewster was ranked No. 10. He is the second-highest-ranked defensive lineman, and Texas Tech is the only Big 12 school to have a commit on the list.
Brewster played in five games as a junior for Cedar Hill High School, rushing for 142 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 10.9 yards per carry. While he has had success as a situational running back throughout his high school career, his future is along the defensive line.
