The Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled out drowning as the cause of death of a 76-year-old man whose body was found in Rockport Harbor on June 19, but police do not suspect foul play.
Rockport Police Department officers found the man after receiving a call of a body in the water, the Caller-Times previously reported.
The department identified him through a Facebook post on June 20 as Keith Thomas Burnett, of Rockport.
A preliminary investigation suggests Burnett was fishing from a pier in the harbor before the incident. Police said it is unclear how he entered the water.
Investigators were present during an autopsy conducted on June 21, and they are waiting for the results, said Rockport Police Chief Nathan Anderson.
Details of the toxicology report, which can take several weeks to be released, could provide additional evidence on whether the man had any medical conditions.
“It’s kind of a mystery right now, but we don’t believe any foul play or criminal offense was involved,” Anderson said.
