Darrion Williams is returning to Texas Tech for the 2026-27 season, signing with the Red Raiders on Friday after spending last season with the NC State Wolfpack.
Williams spent his sophomore and junior seasons at Texas Tech, helping lead them to the Elite Eight in 2025. The forward averaged 15.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists during the 2024-25 season, making the All-Big 12 First Team. He was sensational in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, averaging 21.0 points per game and scoring 23 points against the Florida Gators in the Elite Eight.
He made the All-Big 12 Third Team and the All-Big 12 Newcomer Team during the 2023-24 season, averaging 11.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Williams led Texas Tech with nine double-doubles that season, his first as a Red Raider after he spent his freshman season with the Nevada Wolfpack. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in his first stint with the Red Raiders
Williams entered the portal following the 2025-26 season and ended up transferring to NC State, where he averaged 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. The veteran received All-ACC Honorable Mention honors.
He has played in 133 games during his four-year career, averaging 12.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He has shot 43.8% from the floor, 38.8% from the 3-point line, and 77.3% from the free throw line.
He gives head coach Grant McCasland another proven player who has plenty of experience in his system as the Red Raiders look to make another deep run at the NCAA Tournament. He is their seventh addition of the offseason, joining transfers Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn (UNLV), Cruz Davis (Hofstra), Damarion Dennis (Wyoming), and Jamichael Stillwell (UCF) and high school signees DaKari Spear and Trey Hall.
